The Beginning

When we talk about “essential truths” to believe, we should start long before FIFA’s first World Cup. It is essential we start with a belief in God. Faith is vital: “Whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.”

The God of the universe has and always will exist. By simply speaking it into existence, God created the world and everything in it. He gave all people a clear understanding of what is right. God established the rules and is always a fair judge. There must be consequences for breaking the rules (what the Scripture calls sin). The Bible also tells us that God loves us even when we disobey Him.

Why do we have rules? In this tournament, rules help us know who is truly the best team. In life, the Apostle Peter said God has put rules in place to “bring us to God” 1 Peter 3:18. God is looking for people who seek a relationship with Him.
